Welcome to round three of Marketing Star of the Week, where we profile B2B tech's top marketing minds every Monday.
Today, I'm delighted to introduce you to Elizabeth Hildreth, Vice President of Marketing for Momentum Telecom. I've known Beth for many years and have seen her marketing and leadership skills in action from the front rows. She's a strong, kind, and driven professional, and I feel very fortunate to know and work with her! Enjoy the discussion we had below!
Angela @Mojenta:
Thanks for taking the time to chat with me, Elizabeth! Let’s start with a little bit of your background and journey to get into your current role.
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
I have been in marketing for over 12 years and with Momentum (via acquisition) for over 16 years! I started off in an operational project management role after an internship during my senior year of college and moved into sales operations and account management before ending up in marketing.
Angela @Mojenta:
What do you love about marketing?
Elizaveth @Momentum Telecom:
I love that marketing is such a diverse field. There are so many aspects and functions of it that allow you to be both analytical and creative. You can be working on anything from overall strategy to creative execution at any given time. It keeps things fresh and interesting. Getting to work alongside and help nurture wonderfully clever and creative people is also a huge bonus!
Angela @Mojenta:
I also love working with smart, creative people! Marketing is a big umbrella that covers many areas of expertise. What's your specialty, and how did you develop it?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
I've made my career being a generalist in marketing, but I spent time in project and product management roles which has really served me well from an organizational management perspective. It's an underrated skill, in my opinion, to be able to manage multiple project timelines, budgets, etc. while managing other people – including creatives – doing the same. Product marketing is also something that I'm passionate about when it comes to my role. I believe the better you understand your solution in addition to your audience, the more relatable you are when speaking about it.

Angela @Mojenta:
We definitely have to wear lots of different hats in marketing. What are your biggest challenges as a B2B marketer?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
One of the biggest challenges is staying on top of the ever-changing buyer landscape. Many buyers today are well informed on their technology needs as well as competitive options, so it's incredibly important to illustrate Momentum's value as a partner in technology. This can range anywhere from educating them on cloud solutions in general to setting ourselves apart from the competition by demonstrating our value proposition.
Angela @Mojenta:
Totally agree – the changing landscape makes marketing fun, but also challenging! Speaking of change, what was your biggest lesson learned from the pandemic?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
The biggest lesson I learned during the pandemic is that people are incredibly resilient. Coworkers, customers, partners, family, friends, etc. It was really great to see everyone coming together to keep everything rolling and thriving personally and professionally despite the circumstances.
Angela @Mojenta:
How do you help your organization bridge the gap between sales and marketing?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
Being tightly aligned with our sales teams and reporting up through the same business unit has been incredibly helpful in bridging the gap between sales and marketing. By attending joint team meetings and having frequent and open communication with the sales teams, we are able to gain instant feedback and input that directly affects the content we are creating. Nothing that we are working on is done without a goal or intention, and that helps us be more effective and efficient in supporting the sales team – and the company overall.
Angela @Mojenta:
Yes! Alignment between sales and marketing is so important. What are your favorite marketing resources to help you stay sharp?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
ChannelVision Magazine, Channel Futures, Inc. Magazine, Alliance of Channel Women
Angela @Mojenta:
What brands do you love right now? Who's doing it right?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
Amazon almost always gets it right. Canva and Airbnb are a couple of others that I really enjoy currently.
Angela @Mojenta:
What's your best advice for young marketers?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
Don't be afraid to try new things. Take chances and be bold! Explore things that interest you personally and professionally, and don't be afraid to take your career in a different direction than you may have planned. It might turn out to be even better than you could have imagined!

Angela @Mojenta:
Great advice, Elizabeth! It’s so important to do things that interest you. Who has been a mentor and/or inspiration for you?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
I've been lucky enough to work with many great leaders throughout my career – too many to mention, in fact! My current boss, Chuck Piazza (our EVP of Sales & Marketing) has been wonderful to work with and has really nurtured my leadership skills. I have also had the privilege of working with many incredible women throughout my career who have shown me that we truly can do it all!
Angela @Mojenta:
Yes, we can! It’s so great to have mentors who care about helping you develop your skills.
What are you doing when you aren't working?
Elizabeth @Momentum Telecom:
When I'm not working, you can catch me hanging out with my family, probably at youth sports, or enjoying the great outdoors.
Angela @Mojenta:
Thanks so much for sharing your story, Elizabeth. How can readers connect with you?
